hp officejet 7130 and Mac OS X (intel) trouble

recently I became owner of an elegant 24" iMac (intel).
I wanted to connect my OfficeJet 7130 (All-In-One) printer/scanner/fax.

According to hp documentation:

Connected using USB cable. Installed HP software (CD Version 1.13).
No reaction (ok, I know Apple now on intel processor)

Downloaded HP Driver from website hp

Download 7130_731_EN.dmg
Installed it.

OK, install (and setup) procedure discovered "HP Officejet 7100 Series" device.

Now system can print. Fine. That's one.

Pressing the "Scan Picture" icon in "HP Image Zone" (bundling software). resulted in a scan. But the "Scaner-feeder" didn't respond (when stacked with one or more sheets).

Contacted HP.

Their advice:

  • remove hp software using "HP AIO Mac Software Remover.zip"
  • Install Hp website driver (aforementioned 7130_731_EN.dmg) (and reboot)

Followed advice - resulting in:

- printing of document prints last page, printer system stops activity, software continues saying "printing" (no paper nor any activity in hp-device.

Repeat aforementioned advised procedure, resulting in:

- now printing ok.
- scanning: missing the "Scan To" possibility on frontpanel.

advice HP:

  1. remove hp software using "HP AIO Mac Software Remover.zip"
  2. go to
    • Harddisk>Library>Printers>hp (remove all)
    • Harddisk>Library>Preferences (remove starting with com.apple.print and all starting hp)
    • Harddisk>Users>"all usernames">Library>Printers (remove all)
    • Harddisk>Users>"all usernames">Library>Preferences (remove all starting with com.apple.print and all starting hp)
    • Harddisk>Applications (remove Hewlett-Packard)

  3. Empty Wastebin
  4. Install Hp website driver (aforementioned 7130_731_EN.dmg) (and reboot - starts looking like windows)

Resulting in:

- printing ok.
- scanning: after system boot, could scan 1 page (not through sheet-feeder), initiated through the "Scan Picture" button on "HP Image Zone".
- pressing the "START SCANNING" button on the frontpanel of HP device results in "Cannot connect to PC"
- Entering a Compact Flash card in cardreader gives "Save Photos to PC" (answer 1. Yes). and then error: "No Connection/turn on or connect computer or install hp software"

Now own initiative:

Repeat (again) the 4-steps procedure above.

No change.

Contacting HP (again) - Answer from HP

"Concerning this I regret to inform you it's not possible to use the HP OfficeJet 7130 with your computer. This because there's no supported HP software available for the Intel Mac. I appologize for the inconvenience"
